The client for the pool house had the aspiration of creating the ultimate luxury private spa that needed to contain the latest wellness features. This building was needed to compliment an existing rural country estate.
The finished design contained a large swimming pool, internal and external spa pools, massage stations within the pool, swan neck massage jets, steam room, sauna, sensual massage shower and massage rooms. On the first floor a fully equipped gym was provided, with a state of the art cinema room created in the new basement.
The design explores the contrast of enclosure and darkness, openness and light, all brought together with the highest quality natural materials. The pool hall has an open, light filled double height space at the eastern end, with a more intimate and enclosed space that is tucked under the mezzanine. This adds drama and contrast to the space and the overhanging mezzanine helps enclose the space features and spa beneath. Internally the material palette was kept to a minimum with white and black marble effect porcelain, hardwood cladding, and black framed glazing. Eternally the duel pitched form was mimics the existing adjoins house and local agricultural structures, this form was updated by introducing contemporary flat roofed dormers and a fully glazed gable end. The natural slates were sourced from the uk and offer a robust and beautiful finish that will resist the harsh climate of Northern Island.
The structure of the pool house is expressed internally, the laminated timber trusses were used for their strength, beauty, and resistance to moisture within the pool hall. They were used in conjunction with large cross laminated timber roof deck, this gives the building the structural clarity and rhythm of a traditional green oak structure.
The project also features extensive landscaping works to provide a private spa garden, and links the building to the existing gardens, lake and golf course.
The building was completed in 2021.
Highways is a contemporary 4-bedroom eco house situated on the outskirts of Winchester.
The new L shaped building form encloses and protects a private garden to the west of the site. This was done by positioning the 2-storey element along the eastern boundary to shield the garden from the road noise. A single storey kitchen / dining room projects to the west and serves to enclose the garden and link the internal living spaces with the garden.
The project adopts an innovative building method called ICF or Insitu concrete formwork. This is a system of hollow insulated blocks which and clipped together and filled with concrete. The resulting building is quick to build and very thermally efficient and airtight. The ICF also lends itself Highways as it is ideal for basement wall construction.
The materials chosen for the project are flint stone walling, grey facing brickwork and render for the ground floor, and dark stained timber cladding for the first floor. This creates a strong and robust finish which expresses the first-floor volume which visually floats above the robust stone and brick base. Vertical cladding was chosen to echoe the adjacent woodland.
The Manor House is a contemporary addition to the rear of a beautiful Victorian house in Hampshire. The project included the complete renovation of the house, Annex and landscaping.
The main aim of the project was to create a modern open plan kitchen / dining room that offers direct views and access into the garden. The design used the latest minimal glazing systems to allow large expanses of glass that could be opened up when required.
The dramatic overhanging roof was created to shade the southern aspects in the summer months and prevent overheating. The top of the roof is planted with sedum, this increases the biodiversity of the site and looks great when viewed from the upper bedrooms or the elevated areas of the garden.
The project is a large extension and extensive refurbishment of an existing house set within extensive grounds which include a lake and golf course.

This luxury gym was created for clients who wanted somewhere remote from their house they could go and workout or meditate. The Gym is contemporary in design and has an overhanging roof form which protects the large sliding doors from the sun and rain. The building also acts as a space to help them enjoy their tennis court which is adjacent, and contains a small kitchenette for hot and cold drinks. The building also contains a small WC and equipment store.
The gym is finished in large full height porcelain tiles, these look great whilst being robust and very easy to maintain.

The clients for the Wrap House project wanted to remodel and extend their slightly dilapidated Victorian terraced house situated in Winchester. They were drawn to the historic features and central location but it was too small and didn’t offer the types of spaces they required for modern living with their young family.
One key design move was to unlock the ground floor plan by moving the bathroom to the first floor, this was tucked above the existing staircase, allowing the rear of the property to be opened up into one flexible kitchen / dining / living space.
This space has direct access onto the east facing garden through a large sliding door. The extensive glazing to the rear elevation and roof dissolve the distinction between inside and out and allow light deep into the property.
The rear elevation is conceived as a singular wrapping element, which serves as a canopy, bench, and raised planter as it ‘wraps’ the elevation. This acts to visually link the building to the garden, as it embraces the hardwood timber decked area.
Inside the materials pallet is deliberately limited, consisting of exposed Victorian Clay brick chimneys, European oak flooring, and extensive areas of glazing.
The project is due for completion in June 2017.
Buriton was an extension and reconfiguration of an existing 60's property. The key to this project was to unlock the plan by removing the rear chimney breast and moving the kitchen from the front to the rear of the property.
